Hi everybody, hope you’re all doing great and those who are soon to be on leave, push through, you’re nearly there!
Today I bring you a little DIY treat. Those who know me personally, know that I absolutely love DIY. There is nothing better than sitting back and admiring your hard work/handy work come to life.
Growing up I would get bored with my clothes easily so I turned my plain jeans into stonewashed jeans, ripped jeans, even SKIRTS! I’d spend my weekends making jewelry and always loved layering (before it was cool). Chokers and arm candy were my thang as well as adding lace onto my denim skirts (that used to be jeans),they’d have a fun, unique element to my personal style. I’ve always loved one of a kind which led me to create new garments out of my old ones.
Anyhoo, I decided to try my hand at something else, a clutch. I’ve loved clutches ever since I can remember laying my eyes on one. Actually, It was my long-time friend Kim Rex who turned me onto them (thanks Kimmi!)
I made my way down to the local fabric store in search of a leathery type of material as well as something to line it with. I left with 1.5m X 1.5m of soft tan faux leather which cost only R59, thread and needle set. The following week I managed to get my hands on authentic ShweShwe from the fabric store in town. It was R60 for 1m. I also got magnets and velvet cord to make tassels ( just to jazz it up a bit). I spent tons of time in the fabric store in the past 3 weeks and I’ve learnt so much from the people in the store.
Everything was done by hand, not that I have anything against sewing machines, but I’ve just always done my crafting that way. I’ll invest in a machine should the need arise.
I’ve actually gotten orders to make a few of these which means I might just have a little business on my hands here!
